The one-time capital of the Adil Shahi kings (1489-1686) is dotted with mosques, mausoleums, palaces, fortifications, watchtowers, and strong gateways, with the massive Gol Gumbaz dominating the landscape for miles around.
Think of Bijapur and the first thing that comes to mind is the Gol Gumbaz - the tomb of Mohammed Adil Shah. Gol Gumbaz boasts of the second largest dome in the world. On the western outskirts of the city lies the Ibrahim Roza, which is said to have inspired the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Anand Mahal, Mehtar Mahal, Bara Kaman, Gagan Mahal, Amin Durgah, Assar Mahal, Chota Asar, Faroukh Mahal, Jahz Mahal, Jod Gumba are few other sites of Architectural interest.
